  • Review the epidemiology of complex congenital heart defects and its sequelae.
  • Discuss factors associated with adverse developmental-behavioral outcomes in children with complex congenital heart defects.
  • List common developmental-behavioral problems associated with complex congenital heart defects.
  • Understand the role of developmental-behavioral screening and assessment in complex congenital heart defects.

Presenter: 

Jennifer Poon, MD

Jennifer Poon, MD is Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at MUSC. She has a special interest in neurodevelopmental follow-up of NICU graduates and infants with complex congenital heart defects. Dr. Poon is an active member of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics as well as an executive committee member of the Section on Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
