Supporting the Self care of Parents

How to demystify the buzz word and help parents create realistic self care routines - even now. 


Training Objectives:   

  • Identify Different Types of Self Care and ways they relate to each other
  • Identify Common barriers to Self Care (both during and beyond the COVID pandemic)
  • Identify and Reframe Common Myths related to Self Care
  • Describe Benefits of Self Care
  • Create a realistic self care plan for yourself and/or parents you support

Presenter: 


Mikayla Harper, MA, LPC

Mikayla has experience working with kids, teens, and young adults. Using an eclectic treatment approach that often begins with cognitive and behavioral interventions, Mikayla takes care to make sure the therapy process is tailored to meet each person’s or family’s goals and needs.

As a counselor, Mikayla is skilled in the treatment of anxiety, depression, grief, adjustment and phase of life issues, social skill deficits, and child behavioral problems. Additionally, Mikayla has a special interest in and experience working with the autism community, including both helping people experiencing autism spectrum disorder manage the challenges that come with this diagnosis and commonly co-occurring conditions and supporting parents and families of individuals on the spectrum with the unique life challenges that can come from loving someone on the autism spectrum.

As a true Charleston local, Mikayla obtained a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the College of Charleston and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology from The Citadel Graduate College. Mikayla is a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and certified children’s yoga instructor
