This presentation will provide an overview of a novel Geospatial Environmental Scan capturing factors affecting the developmental health of children ages 0-5 created by experts at the Institute for Families in Society. CHARGED3 is made possible by the generous support of The Duke Endowment.

Cheri Shapiro, PhD
Cheri Shapiro, PhD, is a Research Associate Professor and Director of the Institute for Families in Society, located in the College of Social Work at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Shapiro is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Child and Family Studies. A licensed psychologist, she completed her PhD in clinical psychology at the University of Arizona and has more than two decades of experience in clinical, administrative, and research settings. Past positions include Project Director for the Pittsburgh site of the Multimodal Treatment Study of Children with ADHD, Director of the Psychological Services Center at SUNY Buffalo, Director of Consultation and Evaluation Services for the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, Project Director for the U.S. Triple P System Population Trial, and Principal Investigator of the Family Networks Project, part of the national Quality Improvement Center for Early Childhood. Dr. Shapiro's research focuses on prevention of social, emotional, and behavioral problems in youth and implementation of evidence-based interventions. Recent and current projects include directing the South Carolina Center of Excellence for Evidence-Based Intervention, and Principal Investigator of the Engaging and Training with Compassion Project, designed to create supportive environments for youth in schools. Dr. Shapiro has published more than 35 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, and has taught at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in Psychology and Social Work.
