This webinar is the first of two webinars to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. Stay tuned for more information on the second webinar, which will be led by Pasos on October 17, 2024. 

Learning objectives for the September Third Thursday include:

  1. Understand the cultural significance of the "cuarentena" postpartum period in Hispanic traditions: Explore the traditional practices and beliefs surrounding the 40-day postpartum period, emphasizing the importance of rest, bonding, and recovery for new mothers.
  2. Evaluate the potential health benefits of reviving "cuarentena" practices in modern postpartum care: Analyze how integrating these traditional practices could improve physical and emotional well-being for mothers in modern practices.  

Presenter:

Christian Garcia, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant

Christian García is an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant with the PEAR Network, a program of the South Carolina Infant Mental Health Association. With a deep commitment to advocating for the well-being of young children and families, Christian focuses on providing support and resources within the educational and nonprofit sectors. Her work emphasizes the importance of nurturing environments that promote healthy development and strong family bonds.

Christian holds a master’s degree in Social Work from Baylor University and a bachelor’s degree in Family Community Services from Michigan State University. Beyond her professional work, Christian is passionate about exploring her Mexican-American heritage and understanding the dynamic blend of these cultural identities. This personal journey informs her approach to supporting diverse families, ensuring that cultural sensitivity and inclusivity are at the forefront of her advocacy.

Christian resides in Lancaster County with her husband and daughter, where she enjoys crafting, working on the farm, traveling, and discovering new culinary delights. Her dedication to learning and growing, both professionally and personally, fuels her commitment to making a meaningful impact in the lives of those she serves.
